The asynchronous coding style it promotes.

As a PHP Dev, the synchronous code execution was deeply ingrained in my mind, so at first, I was confused to a level of mild anxiety because of the asynchronous execution.

I just couldn’t get it.

How was I supposed to write code when parts of it are wrapped in callbacks called at some point in the future?

Pure madness!

The async/await syntax sugar was a little bit clearer to me, but still – the asynchronicity was driving me crazy.

What I did next is what I always do when I face a challenge…

I researched how Node.js works. Then I started working on my study project.

And just like that, after several lines…

It clicked in my mind.

Now I feel confident coding in this style, and I appreciate it. It seems beautiful. Definitely different from how I use to think and write in PHP, but equally awesome in its own way.

Every coding style has its qualities and drawbacks, of course.

But to be capable of choosing between them so you can pick up the best one for your new project, that’s the real benefit of keeping your mind open and busy.

First, I need to practice my English writing skills, and the best way I know is by actually writing.

Second, I like to think about coding. And you know what? If you want an idea to crystallize in your mind, you try to explain it on paper.

But guess what happened yesterday?

I was jotting something down about the shiny, new stuff when suddenly I felt awful guilt:

“And what about all the other awesome things that were making you happy 5 min earlier, before the end of the working hours?”, it whispered accusingly

“Well, lemme tell ya something,” I answered.

There’re gurus/mentors/coaches everywhere around us!

It’s an exploding trend and even industry to present yourself as somebody with rich experience and knowledge.

As somebody that can be a lighthouse on the rock which shows the way to the poor souls in the storm.

They are so many and so diverse…

And most of them are just “wannabes” that need a buck.

While a handful of others are the “real deal”…

So I came up with a short checklist that helps me separate the real deals from the scams ( as harsh as it may sound):

[ ] They’ve become successful long before they started talking about success

[ ] They’ve kept their success for a long period of time and managed to remain “common people.”

[ ] They’ve become relatively wealthy long before they started making money by selling books, courses, seminars, and coaching.

[ ] They must have a proven track record on the exact topic they are speaking on

That’s it.

This short checklist always helps me to find the best person to learn from.

So many people believe that they are entitled to this and that. So many believe that they deserve better treatment or whatever while they do nothing.

We are drowning in knowledge…

And yet … You know … No money, no connections, poor me…

I’m so mad right now, sorry.

You know, untold generations before us made all this possible. They deserve not only our respect and gratitude, but they also deserve their descendants to continue pushing the limits and make the world a better place.

We’re not entitled to that… must work for it.
